Gary V. Smith is a retired professor of Christian Studies at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee (2004-2010). He previously taught Old Testament and Hebrew at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City Missouri (1998-2004), Bethel Theological Seminary in St Paul, Minnesota (1983-1998), and Winnipeg Theological Seminary (1973-1983). He graduated from Wheaton College (B.A. in Anthropology 1965), Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (M.A. 1968), and Dropsie College for Hebrew and Cognate Languages in Philadelphia (Ph.D. 1973). He did further academic research in Jerusalem, Israel and in Cambridge, England. Dr. Smith has published commentaries on Amos (Christian Focus, 1989), Hosea, Amos, Micah (NIVAC, Zondervan, 2001), Isaiah 1-39 (NAC, B&H, 2009), Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther (Cornerstone Commentary, Tyndale, 2010; also in Mandarin, 2015), and Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi (Kerux Commentary, Kregel, 2020).
