After graduating in Civil Engineering (Calcutta University, 1954) the author has worked, amongst others, with Freeman Fox and Partners (London), Sir William Arrol & Co Ltd (Glasgow), and Braithwaite Burn & Jessop Construction Co Ltd (Calcutta). Subsequently, he set up his own practice as Consulting Engineer. He is currently a Consultant to Stup Consultants P Ltd, India. During his long career he participated in planning, design, fabrication, erection and overall management of a wide variety of projects, such as bridges, industrial structures, etc., which included new construction as well as repair and rehabilitation work. Countries covered by his work experience include the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and India. Uptal K. Ghosh has published a number of papers and is the author of a book entitled: Repair and Rehabilitation of Steel Bridges, Taylor & Francis/Balkema, 2000. He is a Professional Engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India), a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (UK), and a Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers (UK). |
